IT’S TIME TO CHILL OUT

With all of the hustle and bustle that surrounds New York, sometimes you need to take a minute to literally chill out. This heat wave has given us a really good reason to provide a list of a couple of things you can do to escape or at least assuage the heat this summer. Just because it’s hot outside doesn’t mean you need to stay inside with your A/C turned up to turbo mode.

1. Goto a park

Whether it’s Central Park or Prospect Park, grab an iced coffee and seek refuge in the shade. It is much cooler and there’s a ton to watch at the park; people engaged in friendly games of soccer, dogs running about, and if you’re lucky you can catch a film screening or concert in the evening. (Maybe even run through the sprinklers in the playgrounds)

2. MoMA PS1 “Warm Up”

As “uncool” as the name may sound, this summer series of concerts hosted by the MoMA’s PS1 museum will keep you coming back Saturday after Saturday. Once you enter the courtyard, there are cold beers, misting stations, kiddie pools, and the best experimental music blasting all day long.

3. Escape to the cinema

If all else fails and you just can’t stand the heat, going to the movies is always a good idea. Check out Nite Hawk Cinema in Brooklyn, where they provide an eclectic mix of current and indie films as well as a fully stocked bar and kitchen so that you can kick back with your favorite beer and enjoy the show.
